Carl Gilliard (1976)

Exchanged several emails with her just prior to her passing. She was a very strong and devout Christian who fought to the end through her illness and chemotherapy.

I have pasted an email exchange we had right after chemo. She was such a powerhouse for God!!

Hey there everyone.....Good is GOOD all the time, and I give praises to the matchless and mighty name of OUR LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST....

I just left the appointment with my doctor at U of M and after taking my CT SCAN on last week....

I'm DONE WITH CHEMOTHERAPY.....doing my HALLELUJIAH SHOUT in between typing...

He will monitor me and have me come back every 60 days for the next year...but again...I'm so greatful for all the prayers, the love and wonderful support you guys have given me over the last 8 plus months of my healing...

Please continue to keep me in your prayers....I'm still asking GOD to continue to do a wonderful work in restorning my strength as it pertains to all that your body goes thru during the chemotherapy sessions...so I do desire your continued prayers, love and support.

Love you all...and continue to keep me in your prayers

Good Morning Everyone...and all praises to GOD for his mercy endureth forever...

Just want to keep you guys abreast of how GOOD GOD is being to me during this time of healing in and on my body....went for my updated CT SCAN on Tuesday May 22, 2007 and then met with my Oncology team at U of M on Friday May 25, 2007....was praying that this would be my last appointment and was praying for a clean bill of health so that I could discontinue my chemotherapy....my doctor said that after looking at the CT SCANs side by side one from February 23, 2007 and the one taken this past week on May 22, 2007...that he saw something that could be scar tissue or the disease still lingering and to be on the safe side he wants me to have 4 more treatments and then another set of test...but the WONDERFUL NEWS out of all of this is....when he showed me the side by side scans...it showed that when my left lung was completely collapsed back in February (after 8 days of being hospitalized they sent me home saying there was nothing they could do...that the lung would not re inflate......) and when the lung specialist, ( I didnt go into total detail of what he was proposing in my last praise report, because I knew GOD had a better prognosis)...but in my last praise report when I stated that they could not or would not address my lung issue until the issue with my abdomen was addressed,,..this is what the LUNG SPECIALISTS at U of M actually said..quote unquote...THAT SINCE MY LEFT LUNG WAS COLLAPSED AND WAS NOT SHOWING SIGNS OF INFLATING..THAT HE RECOMMENDED REMOVING IT...SURGICALLY REMOVING MY LEFT LUNG SINCE IT WAS NOT FUNCTIONING..HE ALSO SAID THAT THIS WAS A VERY VERY DANGEROUS SURGERY AND MOST OF HIS PATIENTS THAT ARE HEALTHY HAVE A VERY HIGH RISK AND SINCE I WAS NOT IN THE BEST OF HEALTH. THE RISK WAS VERY GREAT AND COULD RESULT IN DEATH.......I TOLD MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS...THAT I DIDNT BELIEVE GOD WANTED THAT SERIOUS SURGERY FOR ME!!!!!....that I wanted to wait and see what GOD would do...so...I prayed, prayed..and continue to pray...and did a not so great job of exercising the lungs on a small blowing apparatus they give you at the hospital...and PRAYED LIKE MY LIFE DEPENDED ON IT, and it DID and still DOES.

So back to the side by side CT SCANs from last week.....when he pulled up both scans and showed how there was no oxygen getting thru my lungs back over the last few months...and compared with the one this week...my left lung has almost completely INFLATED ON ITS OWN,,,it is operating at around 80% of capacity...this is the SAME LUNG THE RENOWNED LUNG SPECIALIST at University of MICHIGAN was trying to REMOVE...so...dont' tell me how GOOD GOD IS and CAN BE...if you stand on his healing word...remind him continuously of what he says in THE BIBILE ABOUT HIS HEALING POWERS...and TRUST that he is GOD and will do what he said he will and can do...

I'm saving the BIGGEST PRAISE REPORT ...for a time when you all can handle it...(smile)...you all will have to take some kinds of nerve soothing medications when I blow you all away with that praise report....I'm saving the best for last....(doing my HALLELUJAIH SHOUT...as I type this....(smile)

Love you all...and continue to keep me in your prayers

For God so loved Valorie, that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus), that Valorie believes in Him, she has not perished, but now has everlasting life.

I knew Valorie Graham very well in school. Hadn't seen her after. Thank you Carl for giving us this insight in t he last months of Valorie's life. I am glad to see she was a strong Christian, and is truly in no more pain, but resides in Heaven above! God blessings.

I grew up with the Graham family and they were all very dear to me. I am very sorry to hear about Valerie's struggle here on earth, "But to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" May God continue to strengthen the family. I can tell by her faith and her praise that she is in a peaceful resting place, free from pain and free from worry.

From Valorie's Best Friend: Renee Walton-Davis:

Hi Everybody,

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting.

As you all may know Valorie was my best friend (since we were 8 yrs. old) and it brings joy to my heart to see her memory is treasured in the hearts of so many. She was one of a kind and is greatly missed.

God Bless,
Renee

I am sorry to hear of Valorie's passing. I didn't know her after high school but I do have pleasant memories of her from elementary, middle school and high school. It seems as if her time was cut way too short. For those of you that have recent memories of her (including her immediate family) my prayers are with you.
