Dr. Earl Hartman unexpectedly died on Monday night.

Without getting into medical details, Chesterfield Township Supervisor Mike Lovelock said Hartman’s passing was “very unexpected.”

“Nobody saw this coming,” he said.

Hartman, who was the husband of Chesterfield Treasurer Linda Hartman, was a long-time community member who not only supported his community, but his wife and children as well.

“He was very proud of his children,” Chesterfield Township Clerk Jan Uglis said. “He was a very big supporter of hers (Linda Hartman’s) as well; he was always with her.”

Hartman, who once worked with the UAW, was also a professor at Macomb Community College. At one point, he was also a member of the Chesterfield Township Library Board. Though he never held a board position, Hartman was active in township politics for nearly 30 years.

“He was a gentleman, a scholar, a very wise man and a very good hearted person,” Lovelock said. “The community has lost a friend.”

Visitation is set for Thursday from 2:30 to 9 p.m. at Gendernalik Funeral Home, 35259 23 Mile Rd., New Baltimore. The service will take place at noon on Friday in Gendernalik.
