I'll never forget coming home from my senior trip to go to his funeral....his mom said his diploma came in the mail the same day he died. 7th grade English was the first class I remember having with him and he made it unforgetable....

Was not his name Steve "Dunning" ?

He sat beside me in band for a couple years for sure. I played at his funeral. Steve was crazy - typical Dickson kid in high school. A lot of laughs, and missed.

I thought it was Steven Dunning...I was going to check annual and in memory stuff I have in my cedar chest before saying but I'm almosy positive that's correct.

I just thought of this -

We were all at Steve's funeral - the preacher was going on and on. He did the obligatory break down of each letter of his name and what trait with the same letter represented the soul that passed.

I remember sitting in a parlor room just off to the side because there were so many people there. As the preacher spoke (it went on and on.... ) the telephone in the funeral office kept ringing and ringing and ringing... nobody answered.

I like to think that was Steve - he wasn't much for formalities. :-)

Steven and I were in first grade together. Ms. Crowe did not like Steven. He was shall we say "a handful". Once we were in reading groups and Ms. Crowe left the room and Steven was playing with the stapler. She had told him of course to not do that. Well, he continued. He stapled his finger. The staple went all the way through his finger. He just ran around the room with the stapler hanging out of his finger. That was the kind of guy he was. No crying, just running around kidding.

He was always up to something! He was always full of laughs and immitating dubbed kung fu theatre. I remember we were all(Stephen ,me, Brent s. and some others) planning on going to his house for a swim party shortly around the time he passed. I was devastated when Hollye Manley called and told me. What a truly good friend he was. It was "Steven" Dunning

I was just in TN a few weeks ago and saw someone who looked just like Steven. For a moment I thought, oh maybe it's his little brother but had to remind myself that his "little" brother is an adult now too.  Funny how time just stood still for a second.  Steven was adorable and so full of life and fun. His death, for me, will always be remembered as my first real tradegy and loss of someone I loved.
