Hotels in the area you can call in case you need lodging. Bear in mind that summer, weekend rates, are more expensive the closer to the date you book. Book early! Most hotels you can put the reservation on hold until 6pm without a credit card, but you MUST be checked in by 6pm or you lose the room.

 

If you give a credit card, they will charge it whether you check-in or not - it's guaranteeing the room. Also verify their cancellation policy, how early do you have to cancel in order not to be charged.

 

Airlines - remember if you have to fly, the best rates are at least 21 days out. Summer travel is already booking for next year! American Airlines travels to Boston (BOS). You also have the options of Manchester (MHT - do not do MAN or you will travel to England!) and Portland (PWM). For those who don't mind driving a little, you have Hartford (BDL), Providence (PVD), Bangor (BGR), and New York (LGA, JFK, HPN, ISP, EWR, ALB). Travel on Tues/Wed/Thur/Sat for the best rates!

 

Car rentals - Enterprise is in Dover (across from Rogers). Some options are for Portsmouth too. If you pick up a rental car from the airport, it can be as much as 60% more than in town.

 

Trains - remember there is now a train to get into downtown Dover from Boston. Amtrak! It arrives right above the Moose Hall on Chestnut St.

 

Greyhound is still an option as well. The bus station is uptown near Liberty Mutual. There are now tons of hotels up on Weeks Circle too.

 

If you book on the internet BEWARE of those "name your own price" and check the cancellation policies. Many of those can not be changed, even if you wanted to pay a fee - it's use the ticket on the day AND time or lose the money. Read the fine print - and buy trip insurance for $20 for peace of mind.
