Connie and I were friends when we were at Mapleshade School. High school changed our friendship, but it could not change happy memories. We lived in the same neighborhood. I remember bringing her her homework when she was out absent. I would sit on the edge of her bunk bed and try to help her with her homework. And I remember her Dad being the coach of the softball team - the Galaxies - I hated softball and I hated the uniform, but was forced into playing by my Mom cuz she new the Cushmans and thought it would be good for me.
The last time I talked to Connie was at a class reunion. We discovered we both had sons named Andrew and both our husbands called our sons "Boo Boo", like the bear.
I pass her house nearly everyday and think about how I miss her smile and how crazy life is -
I will always regret I did not attend her funeral. I got as far as the parking lot and could not continue. My husband had died in June and I just could not handle going.

I was on the Galaxies as well. When I joined, I was not very "athletically gifted" and Connie's dad put me in left field, where he figured I would do the least damage. My nickname was "Charlie Brown", for obvious reasons. I loved playing on the team, being a part of a group. I loved Mr. Cushman- "Coach"- and I loved all the Cushmans, inclduing Scotty, our bat boy. I moved away from Massachusetts to go to school and lost touch with a lot of people. I didn't know Connie had passed until someone told me later. I couldn't believe it had happened to her at such a young age and I regret never writing to any of her family, to say how sorry I was. To say how sorry I still am. I send my love to all the Cushmans on the loss of Connie.
