Merrill "Smokey" Roberts
Merrill G. "Smokey" Age 55, of Big Pond, PA, formerly of Wellsburg, NY. On Friday, December 2, 2005, the angels came and carried him home to join his mom after a very courageous 45-year battle with diabetes. He was predeceased by his mother, Beatrice Roberts on Jan. 17, 1997; and his mother-in-law, Anne Burbage on July 4, 2003. He was born August 8, 1950 in Elmira, NY. He enjoyed operating heavy equipment and was always willing to help others in any way the he could. Smokey's other passion was watching NASCAR and Orange County Choppers. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with Papa's Princess Kaytie-Anne. He was a proud member of the Big Pond Lions Club. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Cheri Burbage Roberts of Big Pond, PA; his dedicated father, Gordon Roberts of Wellsburg, NY; his children, Merrill Roberts, Jr. of Wellsburg, NY, Sherri Lyn Roberts of Shelton, CT, Randy Roberts of Wellsburg, NY, Jackie Ames of Mansfield, PA, Chad Ames of Gaffney, SC and Jamie Ames of Bentley Creek, PA; one granddaughter, the apple of his eye, Kaytie-Anne Ames of Bentley Creek, PA; devoted brother and sisters, Fred and Barb Roberts of Wellsburg, NY, Linda and Jerry Patchen of Elmira, NY, Diane and Tom Smith of Bentley Creek, PA, Ginney Lou and Ron Strope of Pine City, NY; brothers-in-law, Simeon and Tara Hughson of Clifton Park, NY, Richard Hughson of Rochester, NY, Andy and Loretta Hughson of Berrytown, PA, Jack and Jeannie Burbage of Big Pond, PA; sister-in-law, Lee and Alan Gaylord of Elmira, NY; very special aunt, Virginia Connelly of Hoseheads, NY; his wonderful friend who was always there for him, Bob Leonard; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends. He will be sadly missed and his memory will live on in all who knew him. Family and friends are invited to call Monday, December 5, 2005, at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc., 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Nettie Treat of Faith Community Church, Big Pond, PA, officiating. Interment will follow in Ashland Cemetery, Wellsburg, NY. Memorials are directed to the American Diabetes Assoc., 272 Andrews St., Suite 403, Rochester, NY 14604, or to the Robert Packer Hospital Dialysis Unit, 1 Guthrie Sq., Sayre, PA 18840.
