Richard Edkin

Richard M. “Rick” Edkin, age 58, of East Springfield Pa., on Sunday July 29, 2007, with Molly at his side, and surrounded by his girls, Rick peacefully slipped from this life to the next.
He was born in Erie on July 4, 1949, he was the first of six children of the late Robert M. and Alice Keim Edkin.
He was a 1967 graduate of Strong Vincent High School and attended Gannon University. Over the years he had worked in sales and management positions at Ericson Memorial Studios, Burton Funeral Homes, ADT Security, and Sealing Devices Inc.
Rick served as a Trustee and was President of the Old Lake Road Land Owners Trust, he also was a member of the Springfield Township Zoning Board. In addition, he also enjoyed his and Molly’s volunteer work at the Highmark Caring Place, which they felt was an excellent organization that did magnificent work with children who had experienced the loss of a parent or other close family member.
In his leisure hours he enjoyed golf and sailing. However, Rick’s preferred moments were spent with Molly and his girls, family and neighbors at his favorite spot on earth, their cottage on Lake Erie. Molly & Rick have owned the “Cottage” since the early 80’s and resided there full time for the past ten years. Molly and Rick loved entertaining and it seemed there was almost always a picnic, a party, or a fire on the beach. He and Molly never tired of, and loved to share, the stunning Lake Erie sunsets they were treated to on a regular basis. Rick is survived by his bride, Molly Barrett Edkin, who accepted his marriage proposal way back in the 1900’s. Rick and Molly had three daughters: Stacy Smith and her husband Brad, Lori Angiel and her husband Jeff, and Kari McGraw and her husband Michael; two brothers, Tim Edkin and his wife Pam of Parkland, Fla. and James “San” Edkin of Erie; three sisters: Patty Evers and her husband Rob, Julie Davis and her husband Steve, and Jane Snausky and her husband Joel, all of Erie; four grandchildren, Cameron, Carli, Connor and Marin Angiel, and Maille McGraw; and many many nieces and nephews.
Please feel free to visit with the family and assist them in celebrating Rick’s life at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend prayer services there on Thursday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 147 West 24th St. at a time to be announced.
At Rick’s request a big bash will follow services. Internment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to The Caring Place 510 Cranberry St. Erie, PA 16507 -1075.

I had known Dick since grade school. He was as nice as they came. He and Molly were a terrific match. I had seen him at the Cancer Center while my brother Mark was being treated. He really fought the lung cancer, but unfortunately, he lost the battle, as do so many. In grade school he used to torment several of us girls after school. But we all admitted that we enjoyed it because he was so funny. I'm sure he's teasing everyone in heaven.
