Gina Miano

Gina Louise Miano Will be missed by QVC Stockholders

Gina Louise Miano, age 57, of Erie, died on Thursday March 22, 2007 at St. Vincent Health Center following a lengthy and courageous battle with breast cancer.

She was born in Erie on June 8, 1949 the only child of the late Generose and Clara George Miano. Gina lived in Erie’s “Little Italy” section all of her life. She attended St. Paul grade school and was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, class of 1967. She was a 1971 graduate of Mercyhurst College and earned a master of social work degree (MSSA) from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Gina was a licensed social worker (LSW) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She retired as a supervisor from the Erie County Office of Children and Youth (OCY) after 35 years of service on March 16, 2007. In the course of her lengthy career Gina came to be known and loved by a host of needy children, foster parents, agency staff and community leaders.

Gina loved to travel and journeyed to the west coast several times as well as to New York City and Europe. She was an amateur golfer and a professional shopper. She cruised more malls and retail centers in a month than most people will visit in a lifetime. She was on a first name basis with several QVC associates and UPS delivery persons.

She was an avid lover of animals and rescued several of them including Cokie Robert (deceased), Lacey Lou, Apollo Too, Catastrophe Lou and Boo Radley Miano.

Gina is survived by many aunts and uncles, and several cousins, including Deborah English of Erie. She leaves behind a legion of loving friends who will miss her always.
