Laura Michelle Daspit, 1969-2017. Laura passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 26, 2017 at her home in Austell, GA. This came after her brave struggle with a long illness. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Rupert and Doris Jasper Goodwin of Shreveport, LA, and D.J. and Hallie Swift Daspit of Franklin, LA; her aunt Mary Kathleen Goodwin Shahan of Bossier City, LA; and her nephew Karl Schoen of Portland, OR.

Soon after her birth in Pensacola, FL, the family moved to the San Francisco bay area where Laura grew up with her brothers and sister. She attended Contra Costa Christian high school, and always remembered it as a special time in her life.

After the family moved to Augusta, GA, in 1985, Laura graduated from Evans high school. She became a hospital phlebotomist, and later realized her dream of becoming an emergency medical technician, where she served for many years in the Atlanta area.

After spending several years in Norfolk, VA, working again as a phlebotomist she returned to Atlanta to be near her family as her health declined in her struggle with diabetes. She fought hard and was very brave despite many setbacks. Everyone who knew her misses her very much, and remembers her for her kindness and concern for others. She touched many people with her friendship.

Laura is survived by her parents Sharon G. Daspit of Decatur, GA and C. Phillip Daspit (Diane) of Paradise Valley, AZ. She will be greatly missed by her brothers Clayton Daspit (Laura) of Atlanta, GA, and Corey Daspit (Marisa) of Parker, CO, her sister Shannon McDuffie of Decatur, GA, her aunt Shelley Hill, her aunt and uncle Peggy and Michael Daspit, and cousins Rachel Trussell, Bridget Pittman and Scott Daspit.

A memorial service celebrating Laura's life is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 11:00 AM at A.S. Turner and Sons in Decatur, GA, with friends welcome to visit at 10:00 AM. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Insulin For Life USA (ifl-usa.org) or the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org). - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/augustachronicle/obituary.aspx?n=laura-michelle-daspit&pid=184741909&fhid=5281#sthash.jsQhzdHz.dpuf
