Comments:

Came to Canada with five other sisters in Dec. 1974. My sister Pauline Myrie has since passed away (1989).

I've one daughter michelle Iman. A grandma to 3 grandchildren: Anijye, Ayanna, Akil.

A graduate of the University of Windsor, I worked for 18 years in varying leadership postions with the federal department of Status of Women Canada til 2007. Presently, I'm the Executive at Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion, an organization mandated to create a a welcoming and inclusice city.

I also write a column for The Hamilton Spectator, the largest daily newspaper in our city of 600,000 plus residents. My articles are usually political in nature, as I do have a strong interest in pursuing elected office again. (ran in 1996)

A retired marathoner, (knee injury is the culprit) I travelled to several countries running the dreaded 26.2 mile race including two in London, UK and one in Berlin, Germany.

I once owned a thriving art gallery specializing in African Art. To acquire art pieces I travelled to several African countries and have developed a special affinity for Ghana. (Despite the negative images in the media about Nigeria, I have fond memories of Nigeria and its people ...dem boasy and proud jus like we)

I was awarded Woman of the Year in Public Affairs (City of Hamilton) and is a recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Award.
On Nov 9, 2011, I was Inducted into the Hamilton Gallery of Distinction for my community work and leadership.

I recently established a founation Myrie, Morais Rodney Foundation in memory of my grandmother Ms. Hortense Myrie, ( Ms Aughty) Ms. Hermaine Morais, (..a past teacher and neighbour) and Ms. Leah Rodney, ( posthumously) All 3 women were instrumental in my life. (2 were my neigbours in Martha Brae). The foundation provides "hand up" financial support to women (and children ) living in chronic poverty in Trelawny). We focus on micro type enterprise development for women who have no where else to turn. Our small contribution is aimed at helping women increase their own self sufficiency through micro-enterpise development.

We also purchase school books for kids who would otherwise go without.
Instead of buying me "stuff" for my birthdays I've asked my friends to make a donation to the foundation to help women in the Congo who are victims of rape and torture.

"I'm trying hard at being the change I want to see".

School Story:

Still fond memories of Mr. Tracey. I was one of his favorite students. I really liked him.
