July 22, 2019 - Steve Pedone and his wife, Ximena, just returned from a wonderful tour to participate in the D-Day 75th Anniversary ceremonies and special events in Cambridge, England, and Normandy, France. A shorter version of Steve’s original article, “The D-Day Pilot and Flight Nurse”, which he wrote to remember and honor the service of his dad and mom on D-Day, was published in the July issue of the UK’s aviation magazine, "FLY PAST", and re-titled "Invasion Sweethearts". It’s now available at Barnes & Noble. At the 101st Airborne Museum in Normandy, Steve watched the video of his dad with fellow Pathfinders preparing to take-off in their C-47 to lead the D-Day Airborne Invasion into Normandy. Steve flew in the “Miss Montana” C-47, low over the Normandy invasion beaches and drop zones. “It was a great flight, but I can’t imagine what my dad and mom experienced 75 years ago.” I was very proud to represent them at the D-Day 75th Anniversary events. What a memorable 75th D-Day Anniversary!

May 27, 2019 - Steve Pedone would like to share his new article titled "The D-Day Pilot and Flight Nurse". Steve Pedone and his wife, Ximena, will be attending 75th Anniversary of D-Day ceremonies and special events this June, in England and Normandy. The anniversary has special importance to Steve, since his dad was the co-pilot of the lead Pathfinder Troop Carrier C-47, dropping the first 101st AB Pathfinder Paratroopers into Drop Zone "A", and his mother was a Flight Nurse, who flew soon afterward into Normandy on the same C-47s to evacuate the wounded. Steve says, "It is an honor to represent my dad and mom, who were there in 1944, in harm's way".
The full article, with pictures, provides an interesting historical perspective, and can be seen is on the "D-Day Squadron's" web site, at this link:
Hope you find it interesting! Steve Pedone, Naples, FL

May 16, 2012 - Neill Lindsay discovered an audio tape his family had recorded of the radio broadcast of the football game between the Fayetteville Bulldogs and the Goldsboro Quakes on September 30, 1960. The recording, which begins during half time, is just over an hour long, so you can skip through and listen to snipets by double clicking on "Bulldogs vs. Goldsboro Quakes" to start the file to play and then by dragging the light grey button (initially at far left) along the green play bar to skip through the file, or, if you have the time, listen in its entirety. The initial quality is not that great but improves dramatically several minutes into the recording. So, slip into our time machine, turn the dial back to Friday night, September 30, 1960, and enjoy!
