ANNOUNCEMENTS

This coming Thursday will mark two months since we gathered to celebrate our 50th H.S. Reunion.  I don’t know about any of you — but for us — we are still in awe of that night and how it all came together.

It was a great success due to how many of you were in attendance, some with spouses and those that married their high school sweethearts.

When we first started this project, we hoped to get at least 50 in attendance to meet the requirement of the venue.  We far exceeded our goal and the final count was eighty-two.

With that said, we were able to do a buffet dinner, dessert, prizes, decorations, party favors and offer an open bar of beer and wine.

Money still remained after all the bills were paid.  The wait staff each got an $80 tip. A  donation was made to the F.P.M. Marching Band and to an Eagle Scout that contacted us through the school for his project (see copy of his email below).  Each of these were made in the amount of $170.  The reason for the delay in brining you up to speed is that school board needed to approve our donation prior to sending in the money.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving filled with lots of family, friends and Blessings.

With warmest regards,

Eileen May Brady
and
Christine Oliva Morby

Dear Mrs. Brady,

My name is David Talero, I am a Life Scout from Troop 298, and I am planning an Eagle Scout project at Floral Park Memorial High School. The project will consist of the construction of a brick patio behind the school to offer a place for spectators to sit at tables and have refreshments during school games. It would be appreciated if your Alumni Association of 1968 would consider making a donation or monetary contribution to the project. The project is scheduled for this fall and will be brought out by scouts, students, and staff alike. If you have any more questions or are interested you can call me at xxx-xxx-xxxx or e-mail me at xxxx@xxx.com. Thank you for your time and have a nice day.

Yours in Scouting,
David Talero

Hello Christine and Eileen,

I am (for whatever reason) unable to "reply all" and hope you can share this.

I have been in the non-profit world on and off my entire adult life.  I co-founded a non-profit and have worked with those in need.  $170. does not sound like a lot, but it means so much to each person or group who is at the receiving end.  Thank you for choosing these deserving recipients, for being generous with the wait staff, for organizing, for putting your hearts and souls into our reunion and especially thank you for a lovely evening.

Wishing all of my former classmates the most wonderful of holidays, safe travels, an adventurous 2019 and many, many blessings,

Mary Titone Millican

I’d like to comment on the recent reunion tour of FPM school. For the most part it still looked the same except for the new and beautiful addition on the front. As I walked around with my wife and kids Nelysa, Kyle and Katrina I started to think about how different I am now as a person than I was back in those days and in fact I’ve probably had a few different personalities over the past 50 years partly defined by different jobs, people I’ve associated with and spouses. Gone are the insecurities that come with our teenage years and the anxiety associated with trying to figure out the direction our lives will go. Yeah, now this is really the best me I’ve been in all those years-great wife, job and kids. My little girl who just entered 1st grade this year made an interesting comment- she asked me why there are all old people at my school and she said that all the people were young at her school. Well, I told her daddy went to school here but it was a long time ago and we were all young then too. She then said but daddy you’re not old! Hmm. Yes it’s true we are all kind of old now and our lives have changed and so too our appearances. In fact I hardly recognized most of you but the school looked the same and as we drove around the village of FP, I noticed that it too was pretty much the same. Too bad we can’t be the same too, if just for reunion day.

When we least expect it, we get hit with a major expense. Car repairs, new AC unit or worse yet, major medical bills.

Eileen and I want as many of our class to attend the reunion this coming September. We got to thinking: The last thing we want to happen is the only reason someone won't be joining us is that it just won't currently fit into their budget.

We are pleased to announce that a few generous classmates were thinking the same as us and have come forward. We are now able to offer “full and partial scholarships”*  to cover the cost of the ticket to the reunion.  If you or some one you know would benefit from this scholarship —

PLEASE - contact us at

This will be in the strictest of confidence and we promise we will be the only two that will know who was nominated or has applied for the scholarship. There surely have been times were you helped out someone without wanting anything in return and there will be many a time that you will be given the opportunity to pay it forward. Be sure to include a way for us to contact the recipient.

Our class is awesome. Just a few examples: Carpools are being formed, ride share from train stations to and from the event are already planned and now this unexpected scholarship.  We can't say this enough times - 50 is a big deal - don't miss out.

With hugs and warmest regards,

Christine & Eileen

*limited to classmates only - not a guest / does not include transportation

Summer is a busy time for many. Today was the deadline to R.S.V.P. and mail in your check for our reunion. As luck would have it - we have extended the deadline by two weeks - August 29th.  We don’t want anyone to miss the fun.

If your check is "in transit" . . . THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!
