After Hoppy got out of med school we bought a house off Redman and Larimore from Mr Henner (HHS Asst Principal), and Tom Raft moved in down the street a short time after -He used to call me his "lil'Sister" He was a nice guy and left a wife and several children when he passed away from cancer. I do not remember the exact year but it was the late 70's. Danny Taylor (70)and Joe Alyward (72) from HHS all lived on that street. I'd like to locate his wife as I have great pictures of Tom that I think his family would like to have.
Tom died of cancer in the late 70's? Wow! He was a really sweet cute guy. I can't believe how many that I knew have passed away. Derrick Krenski lived next door to my brother on old jamestown road. He shot himself. From what my brother said he was burned bad on the arms a nd hands a few years before & still had a lot of nerve pain that he apparently just couldn't deal with anymore. He shot himself in the garage. Very Sad!
Tom was in many of my grade school classes at Larimore. He lived on Priggee Rd and I lived on Briar Brae and the two streets backed up to each other. He came over many times in grade school and all the neighborhood kids played softball in my backyard.
My memories of Tom were a rather 'tough guy' exterior, but inside he was really a nice guy. I remember he used to come by our neighborhood for a time, because of a certain young lady. It was always good to see him, even if I secretly liked the same girl. I don't think he suspected it.
