Ginger Marshall Post

Ginger Marshall Post, 57, of Grand Rapids, Ohio, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 9, 2009, with her loving husband, Fred by her side at the Toledo Center of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Ginger was born July 23, 1952, in St. Louis, MO, to the late Robert Ward and Lillie (Hines) Marshall. She married Frederick R. Post on August 16, 1998, and he survives her in Grand Rapids. Also surviving are her beloved aunt and uncle, Joseph and Margaret Banas of Virginia, who served as a father and mother to Ginger. A brother, Bob (Jane) Marshall of St. Louis; niece, Dorrie and nephew, David, also survive. Ginger earned her bachelor's degree in adult liberal studies and her Master of Education degree from the University of Toledo. She was a special education teacher in the Washington Local School District for six years. Ginger and her husband created a specialty candy company called "Fred and Ginger's Dancing Horses Candies" and sold their products at many major horse expositions for thirteen years. After her diagnosis with breast cancer in 2005, Ginger created an annual charitable event called "Trails for Triumph" which raised money for all forms of cancer research. Her efforts led to raising over $10,000 for the, over the four years she chaired the fundraising event. Ginger was an avid horseperson and animal lover in general who competed in English Hunter/ Jumper competitions for several years, and more recently competed in Dressage. Ginger had several thoughts she wanted to share with her family and friends. These follow: What is an obit? I thought about this and decided to write the following for those who cared to know. I had a few main passions in my life. My husband Fred rises above all. Never could I say enough to let the world know my love for him and he for me, use your imagination. Second are my love for my friends of which I have a beautiful number and to name those who should be named are Linda, Peggy, Melinda, Brenda, Linda, Crystal, Pam, Diane, Machelle, Karen, Sharon, Eileen, Ivan and all too many more related to my love of horses and people. I have traveled extensively in my life to include the following countries: Belgium, Germany, England, Netherlands, Portugal, India, Indonesia, Bali, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Bahamas, Grand Turk, Mexico, and of course Canada. I loved traveling and was an international buyer for several companies for a number of years. Needless to say, I had a great time exploring and conducting business on an international scale. Also, a few trips to include riding elephants in the jungles of Thailand always added a bit of spice. I returned to college, graduated and then continued on to earn a Master's Degree in Special Education. I was fortunate enough to be hired by Washington Local Schools as a special education teacher, which I loved and was skilled at. The students were my treasure and their memories still are. I have a very special aunt and uncle, Joe and Margie, and another special Aunt Vi who I love very much and will miss. I will also miss my niece, Dorrie, my nephew, David, and my brother and sister-in-law, Lajos and Priscilla. Horses I leave behind Avie, Reggae, Cordino and Hennessy. I love them, they love me. We will be riding again soon. Cats I leave behind, Chad, Impy, Princess Xena, Bachie, Claudia and Barackia, and I'm pretty sure they love me as far as cats can love. I had breast cancer, lung cancer and Scleroderma. All bad. Find a cure, these are terrible diseases. Leave a memorial if you wish to honor Fred, call him, be a friend and that will honor me. Thanks to everyone at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, especially to one of our many devoted nurses, Pat Rudski who helped us face important issues we were unfamiliar with. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away! Per Ginger's request, her body has been donated to the University of Michigan Medical School for research purposes. After the research is completed, she will be cremated and returned to her husband Fred. Per her wishes, some of her ashes will be sprinkled on the backs of her horses so she can have one more ride. The remaining ashes will be sprinkled in the back pasture area of her farm. There will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the, Planned Pethood or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Ginger died of cancer in August, 2009, only a few weeks after her 57th birthday. She lived in Ohio with her husband, Fred Post; they owned a horse farm.

Ginger lived at the other end of Claudine Drive from me, in Spanish Lake. We rode the same bus. She was interested in acting and dancing, and we were all thrilled for her when she got the part of Ismene in Antigone in junior year. I remember seeing her up on stage in her satin Greek gown and her russet hair. She gave a fine performance.

She was a lovely person, and I wish she could join us for our reunion.

I remember Ginger as a very warm-hearted and very talented person who treated others with respect. News of her death saddens me, but I believe that her spirit is truly free now to ride with the wind.
