Comments:

Left the band in 1977 because I wasn't sure the injury to my front teeth would allow me to play professionally much longer ... I was wrong!!!! However, I began a computer programming degree in a cooperative education program at NSA in 1979, which was the first step in a WONDERFUL, challenging, system engineering career in defense and intelligence. The teeth were stabilized by VA-paid orthodontia during my mid-twenties and twenty years later .. so continued freelance playing/teaching. Currently reside in Williamsburg, VA, where our family moved in 2004 so John could finish out his career at NASA. Doing business as Studio Muse'n, I teach piano and flute to a widely neurodiverse student population, and continue to freelance (flute and piano). Joe took such great care of us ALL ... above and beyond.  His warmth, humor, and great care are treasured still!

Joe was the instigator of my 20-year systems engineering career in Defense and Intelligence.  He persistently pushed and insisted that I complete an application for "this place where my neighbor works" because "you are better than just working for an animal hospital (which I did and loved for about 19 months after leaving the Band).  I never knew Joe's neighbor's name, but I did fill out the ecru and green six-page application, which resulted in several offers of positions at the DoD location which at the time we could not name.

Joe could see the gifts in all of us ... not just the musical ones.  He understood that I was concerned that the damaged teeth might result in unreliable flute playing (turned out that once orthodontia put the front teeth back in place after I left the Band that I can indeed still play professionally) and so did not stay in the Band. So he looked for another path for me.

I will never forget, Joe.  With great regard ....
