Rest in Peace, Sgt. Throne. You are in our prayers, Bob.
Welcome, Steve. I think you're going to really enjoy the site. I know that I do. ????
I am so saddened to hear of Major Sam's passing. I cherish the times I was able to meet up with the Fricanos in Jacksonville when they would come see me perform at the local dinner theatre there. I remember once when he accompanied me on the piano in the lobby after a performance of Hello Dolly!. It was so much fun just having a little jam with Sam and it took all three of us back to those golden Field Band years [I know that it took him back. He still called me "Bobby!!"] and that wonderful sense of Field Band comraderie that we all cherish. He was a great commander, a great musician, a great person and a priceless friend. A true gentleman. God bless and keep you, Major. Bob Hildreth
Happy Birthday, Paul. I hope that it's a splendiferous occasion. All my best, Bob.
Thinking of you and remembering the wonderful session we enjoyed at the Alhambra. What great reunions you and Marge and I had over the years in Jax. I miss her and I miss you. God bless. Bob.
I just wanted to say a word or two about Sergeant Major Coughlin as he was one of the greatest influences on my career at the band and in my life as well. I was one of the very youngest new members of the Soldiers' Chorus when I arrived in 1967 and much younger in terms of maturity. He was my anchor and my mentor and practically my father as I grew up in the Field Band. He could make me light up with his approval and quake when in the focus of his fierce demands and strict discipline. He believed in me and gave me opportunities that I could only dream of and I'll be forever grateful to him. And for those who never had the pleasure of hearing Gene sing [he only did it once in my presence] the man could warble a little. Repeatedly shot down during WWII and soloist with the San Francisco Opera. What a man. Miss you, Gene.
Hi, Ken. So glad you're on the Field Band site. Did you ever cross paths with Joe Peterson when he was flying for UPS up there? I know it's a long shot but, hey, you never know. Do I remember that you had a slight thing for Dodge Chargers? It's been around 40 or so years but I seem to remember you shouting "Charger!!!" whenere we passed one in the bus. Anyway, good to see your shining face again. You haven't aged a day.
