JOSEPH C. STECH, 52, of rural Spencerville, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at home. Prior to his cancer treatments he had been employed in commercial building maintenance, most recently as Facility Director at Science Central from 2001 to 2011. He had a servant's heart serving as a volunteer fireman for 10 years at Northeast Allen County Fire & Rescue, holding the office of Vice President in 2008 and President in 2012. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church serving as the sound tech for worship services, helping with the facility set-up of Cross Borders Partners clothing and furniture bank, and traveling on mission trips to help with reconstruction after hurricane Katrina. He is survived by his wife, Klare of Spencerville; mother, Rosella Stech of Fort Wayne; brothers, Tom (Monica) Stech of Ogden, Utah and Gary Stech of Elkhart, Ind.; sisters, Sheila (Paul) Cruz and Elaine (John) Weikart, both of Fort Wayne; five nephews, Matt and Justin Stech, Andrew and Luke Weikart, and Tim Cruz; and two adopted daughters, Rachael (Ben) Keller and their children, Hannah, Ruby and Georgia of Grabill, and Kristen (John) Sorg of Holland, Mich. He was preceded in death by his father, Merrill Stech. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, with visitation in the welcome center starting at 9 a.m. Preferred memorials to Holy Cross Outreach Mission Fund.
