A driver and passenger died Wednesday after a minivan ran off the road and hit a tree in Pope County, authorities said.

It happened about 3:10 p.m. as 75-year-old Dover resident Ronald V. Schreiber was driving a 2001 Toyota Sienna east on Walnut Valley Road, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Police say the SIenna veered off the road in a curve about a half mile west of Arkansas 7 North and then hit a tree.

Schreiber died at the scene. A passenger, identified as 73-year-old Glenda K. Sharon Schreiber, was taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, where she died shortly after 8:45 p.m., police said.

Conditions at the time were described as clear and dry.
