Obituary

Mark S. Farren, 60, of Avilla died unexpectedly Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 11:46 p.m. in his residence.

He was born December 5, 1956, in Fort Wayne to Michael and Marjorie (Knappenberger) Farren. His father preceded him in death.

On July 17, 2017, in Yaak, Montana, he married his high school sweetheart, Elaine M. (Rosswurm) Kokosa.

Mr. Farren honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1975 to 1979.

Upon returning from the Marine Corps, he was the Deputy Marshall for Rome City and later retired from the Kendallville Police Department. He started working at Impact Institute in Kendallville and took a year off to work for DynCorp International in Afghanistan. Currently, he was the criminal justice instructor at Impact Institute in Kendallville.

Mark enjoyed riding his Harley, and, it was because of his love of bike trips that he and his wife bought a home in Yaak, Montana, where he spent his time this summer. He also enjoyed camping. Mark was known for making the best chili and salsa ever made. And, he loved to share those foods with his class at Impact Institute.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine Farren of Avilla; two daughters, Andrea Farren of Kendallville and Michelle (Brian) Wiese of Seattle, Washington; two sons, Thomas Farren of Kendallville and Bryce (Gates) Clevenger of West Lafayette; his mother, Marjorie Taylor of Kendallville; three sisters, Cynthia (Ken) Angel of Churubusco, Sandy (Steve) Miller of Churubusco, and Sara Taylor of Kendallville; a brother, Don M. Taylor of Churubusco; and his dog, Barrett.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 18, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Dan Cosentino of Legacy Church in Kendallville officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery, Rome City.

Honor guard services will be provided by the Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville American Legion Post 86, and active duty members of the Marine Corps. The Kendallville Police Department will post officers during the visitation and will lead the procession to the cemetery.

Calling is Thursday, August 17, 2017, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
