Small Game Hunting @ Angelo's BBQ

In the fall of our senior year I started losing interest in school.  I had a part time job at a garage on White Settlement Road a few doors west of Angelo's BBQ.   When the garage was real busy I'd ditch school before lunch and go work.   We'd take a lunch break in the middle of the afternoon after the crowds left Angelos.

In those days Angelo's had sawdust on the floors.  This was kind of like they did in butcher shops a long time ago.  It gave the place a unique atmosphere.  We'd get a sandwich and go to the back room and stretch out in a booth since it was pretty empty.  On one of these trips I was sitting there and noticed something moving in the saw dust.  A little later I saw some other things moving.  Angelo's had mice and they looked pretty healthy.

Later that week a couple of us took Whammo wrist rocket slingshots and some ball bearings along on the lunch trek.  We scattered the mice a few times, but never got a trophy for the wall.  It was fun while it lasted, but later on the health department came along and made Angelo's get rid of the sawdust.

Great critter story.  Angelo's is still a hang out in FW.  People that don't live in FW talk about it and the coldest beer, etc.  The bear brings such ambience, eh?

A trip home to Ft. Worth always includes at least one trip to Angelo's.  I remember the sawdust floors and the big round table with the red phone for the local politicians.  Angleo's beer is the coldest in town!

We could have our PHS party at Angelos, I guess.  Though I dig Joe T's and it's ambience more that the bear at Angelos.
