James R. Cunningham, 78, of Frankfort, died September 21, 2017 at his home.  Born January 9, 1939 in Frankfort, Ind. to the late Raymond Kenneth & Nellie E. (Kanatzer) Cunningham.  He married Joyce Cobbs on April 11, 1986 in Frankfort and she survives.  James was a 1957 graduate of Frankfort High School.  He worked for Alcoa for 35 years, retiring in 2002.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Lebanon, Ind.  James enjoyed gardening and hiking.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Goodwin Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 25th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bunnell Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the TPA Park for playground equipment or Salvation Army.

Anderson of Forest, Brothers: Bill (Rose) Cunningham of Frankfort, Jerry Cunningham of Frankfort, Sisters-in-law: Linda Cunningham of Frankfort Peggy Cunningham of Kentucky, 19 Grandchildren; Jasmine, Vince, Allie, Ace, Zachary, Kristen, Whitney, Brittany, Trevor, Melissa, Courtney, Zoie, Haylie, Jaden, Ashton, Gunnar, Jonna & Paul, 8 Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty L. Hindsley, 5 brother, Gary, Glen, Thomas, Charles and Russell Cunningham and a granddaughter, Chelsea Cobbs.

Jack McKown

Soft-spoken James Cunningham was a classmate for 12 years.  Not one to cause a fuss over anything, James just quietly showed-up, and did what was expected of him.  In retrospect, I believe that James was one of the gentlest souls that I have ever met.
