I remember John well esp when we attended Triton. He took me to the Roller Derby once. He played trumpet with a local dance band
Rif Raf many times at Nickel Bag on River Rd near Lawrence. Doug Buffone was part owner and sometimes checked ID's. John was also a great golfer. His dad was a golf pro as I remember.

Johnny and I were best buddies in junior high.  He was the funniest kid around, always wise cracking. They lived above his dad's business; E&G Plumbing and Heating on Grand Avenue close to Garberson's Drugs.  Johns mother passed away during that time and it really changed him.  His dad then took us boys out to dinners, movies and sports events in his gold cadillac several times. I didn't see him much through high school and only heard that he died from cancer when he was just twenty-one and was living in California.

Thanks Pat for the post about Johnny. He was our catcher on the Hawks Pony League team and we were on the golf team together at East Leyden. I knew he died young but did not know how young.

John was the Captain of the Concert Band & an officer of the band along with me, Mike Myers, & Sally Jo Booth (deceased). He was very funny & a good guy. I brought my boyfriend over to his home above his Dad's business & he was so nice to him, who was a stranger to everyone there. We played pool, I think. I hope that he didn't suffer through his illness. Gee, he knew a lot of heartache in his short life. Cheryle Whitney

John and I spent a lot of time together junior and senior year.  Like others, I went to several events with John and his dad.  Most memorable were the times we went to the old Ampitheater to watch roller derby and the times we went to play golf together.  What great times.   Summers I caddied at Oak Park Country Club.  I even caddied for John's dad.  He really did a lot for John.

John used to get to drive his dad's Cadillac quite a bit.  He and I would cruise around Franklin Park and River Grove.  I remember driving this big car long before I got my driver's license.

John was very serious about playing the trumpet and was proud to play whenever he could.

I think of him often and miss those days.  John, maybe we'll play together again in a heavenly band.  What a treat that would be!
