Herbert Earl Boykin

Sep. 09, 1951 – May 14, 2017

Born in Colbert County, Alabama, Herb got to Texas as fast as he could, when he was a year old. His parents are Rubin Earl Boykin, and Betty Jo Williams Boykin.

A heart as big as Texas is an understatement for Herb. He loved God, his family, and Brazoria County. An advocate for better treatment of animals was his goal, as the Livestock Deputy for the Sheriff’s office. He served as a proud member of law enforcement for more than 30 years.

Whether it was as a softball coach, working with local explorer posts, gunsmithing, teaching gun safety, or cooking on his beloved chuck wagon, he was always including the rich history of Brazoria County. He always gave far more than 100%, touching many lives.

He was preceded in death, by his mother. Herb leaves behind, the love of his life, Shari Runnels Boykin, the son and daughter he loved like his own, Taylor Garratt and Cindi Calderon, his father, Earl Boykin, father-in –law, Pete Runnels, brother, Steve and wife, Sandy, their children, who called him their Uncle Tree, Jenny and Greg Nowlin, Lisa and Clif  Custer, Steven and Mandy Boykin, great-nieces, Abigail Boykin, Lila Boykin, Addalyn Custer, his beloved Bobo the dog, his horses, and the Kitteh gang.

There will be no service at this time, but a Memorial Service to celebrate his life and share stories will be announced at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, he would dearly love donations made to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Division (please specify that donations be used for the care and feeding of the animals), or to the Brazoria County SPCA. You will be forever in our hearts.
