Robbye Strickland (Prilop)

Obituary

Robbye Prilop, 71, passed away at home on October 7, 2023. She found meaning, connection, and peace in nature, and to nature she has returned.

Robbye was born in Freeport, Texas, to John and Audrey Switzer Strickland on July 4, 1952, one of four children.

Robbye graduated from Brazosport High School in 1970. A couple of years later she met her husband, Don, and on the night they met she told her friend that he was the man she was going to marry. They married in February 1974, and spent the next 50 years building a family and life together.

After working for many years for Intermedics up until they closed, she went on to work for the County before she retired and became a professional grandparent.

Robbye was a reader, and filled the home with books from the time her children were very young. Her children were always busy in school, and she supported them with love and strength. She had strong opinions and cared deeply, and for a time was known for her fiery Letters to the Editor. Her quick wit and great sense of humor made a lasting impression on those around her.

In her retirement, Robbye loved long drives to the beach and watching sunsets from the back deck, listening to music with Don. She loved spending time outside in nature, observing the wildlife and tending to her plants. She enjoyed taking the golf cart out on their property to check on the ponds and the bullfrogs, and it brought her great joy to sit peacefully and watch the squirrels and birds flitting about, along with the occasional deer wandering across the back.

Most of all she loved all her family dearly. She was a wonderful wife and mom, and she was the world’s best Grammy. She loved her grandson with all her heart and there are simply no words to describe their bond. We will hold her in our hearts forever.

Robbye is survived by her husband, Don; daughter, Valerie Prilop (Kim Herrington); son, Nathan Prilop (Cherri); grandson Silas Herrington-Prilop; sister, Sharon Stewart (Wayne); brother, Mike Strickland (Linda); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Randy Strickland.

Service details will be shared by the family at a later date.

Robbye was a blood donor for many years. She also cared deeply for all children, especially those in need. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Brazoria County Alliance for Children (https://www.cac-bc.org/), No Kid Hungry (https://www.nokidhungry.org/), or your local blood bank.

Final arrangements entrusted to Dixon Funeral Home of Brazoria at 979-798-9113.
