Michael Spaulding

Just stumbled on this site. Great to read all the names and the memories attached. As to after school...went To Wayne State in Detroit for Mortuary School...worked in the family biz for almost 25 years. In between all the generality above. Got married, helped two kids into the world, got divorced. Bought a sailboat. Got married. Katherine born. Got a captians license. Due to circumstances too long to repeat here, left the biz, went to Key West and ran charterboats sail and power. Owned and operatied "Tenatious Charters" for nine years. Doctor took me off the water [the rotter] so it was cooking in a couple places...managed a couple dining rooms....drove taxi for a year[6pm to 6am]. Ended up with a national tourist outfit down there...Historic Tours of America. Despite the fact that there had to be an elborate name for us .."History Tellers" We did Key West anacdotal material in first person story format. Directed the program for 3 years. Did that up til 2000 when we came north...[raises the question as to why in heavens name why?] Wifes health...wanted to be closer to her family ....back into funeral work. Last gig was for The Detroit Science Center in 2008-part of 9 portrayed Leonardo Davinci for an exhibit oh his machines and so on. [fun!]

Ahh. Concerns the "Goomba"

In class one day I sort of doodled a characature of the "Maj".
He apparently had been keeping an eye on this and waited for it to be completed before looking at it and suggested I stop by his desk after class. I fully expected a tap to head with his ring ...as it turned out he asked if a larger, suitable for framing copy. Yesser...happy to oblige! this was presented to him and he did in fact hang it in his quarters. The last time I saw it, was ar some reunion where it had been included in a little museum in the main building.
He was, without any doubt, the best teacher I have ever had.
