  • A student on Virginia Tech Campus goes on a killing spree leaving over 30 students dead
  • The New Wembley Stadium in England Is completed
  • Rupert Murdoch acquires Dow Jones & Co which includes the Wall Street Journal
  • The Bridge over the the Mississippi river on I35W collapses with cars dropping the 50ft into the river, due to quick responses by emergency services only 13 people lost their lives in the tragedy
  • Six miners are trapped and lost in a collapsed mine in Utah and the tragedy worsened when 3 rescue workers are also lost in the tragedy
  • In Burma the military Junta Shut off access to the outside world including Internet access and moved against street protests by Buddhist Monks
  • The Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf clings to power by suspending the Constitution and imposing martial law
  • Bomb attack on the Former prime minister of Pakistan ( Benazir Bhutto )
  • Severe tropical storms strike Karachi in southern Pakistan leaving hundreds dead
  • An earthquake measuring 8.0 strikes the central coastal area of Peru leaving 500 dead
  • Daimler Chrysler sells off Chrysler to a private equity fund
  • Gordon Brown becomes The new British Prime Minister
  • The worlds most efficient electric car the Tesla Roadster shown at car shows prior to full production 2008
  • The world's largest ship the "Liberty of the Seas" a passenger cruise ship goes into service
  • Terrorist attack on Glasgow Airport by terrorists working as doctors in the British Health Service
  • The US Housing bubble bursts when year on year home prices drop by up to 2 - 15% in areas of the country
  • New7Wonders Foundation announce the new Seven Wonders of the Modern World
  • TAM Airlines Airbus 320 Flight 3054 crashes in Brazil with the loss of 199 people
  • The presidential candidates who decided to run for the highest office in the US Republicans: Mitt Romney, Rudi Guliani, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Tommy Thompson, Duncan Hunter, Sam Brownback, Tom Tancredo, Jim Gilmore, Fred Thompson. Democrats : Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Edwards, Ron Paul, Mike Gravel, Chris Dodd, Bill Richardson, Joe Biden, Dennis Kucinich.
    Some had already dropped out by the end of 2007 before the race even begun
