DALLAS -- Mr. Cloninger, 49, of 5106 Old Still Lane, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2003 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was born December 17, 1954, son of Shirley L. Cloninger and the late Alvin B. Cloninger.
He was a 1972 graduate of Ashbrook High School. He was the first and youngest police cadet in the history of the City of Gastonia Police Department, having joined the force at age 18, and later served as a dispatcher, a past member of the Gaston Life Saving Crew, a former employee of Ward Funeral Home in Gastonia having served as an ambulance driver, a past member of the Ranlo Fire Department, a former member of the Ranlo Police Department having attained rank of sergeant, served over 10 years as a security officer at Gaston Memorial Hospital and was currently serving as dispatcher for the North Carolina Highway Patrol stationed at Troop H in Monroe.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Annette J. Cloninger; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason M. and Kelly Cloninger of Durham; a son and fiancee, Nicholas Cloninger and Katie Borklund of Durham; two stepsons, Greg Jackson of Clover, SC and Scott Jackson of Gastonia; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Cheryl Cloninger; nieces and nephews, Brittany C. Johnson and David M. Cloninger.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin B. Cloninger and a sister, Sandra R. Cloninger.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 4, 2003 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home and at other times at the residence, 5106 Old Still Lane, Dallas. Services will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Faith United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Burton officiating. Pallbearers will be fellow officers of the NC State Highway Patrol, Tss. Ron Raybon, Tc. Greg Thomas, Tc. Brian Caulder, Tc. Brian Kirkpatrick, Tc. Jackson Bordeaux, and Sgt. Allen Hook. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 1511 East Ozark Avenue, Gastonia, NC 28054, or The Gaston County Humane Society, P.O. Box 2334, Gastonia, NC 28053.
