Reunion Update? Hey Marty, just wondering what you and the Reunion Committee have come up with. I know you guys have met a couple of times, and I think you were shooting for the Saturday during the Thanksgiving break.

Let us know if there are any other specifics. I'm making my plans to be there, and I figure that others are probably as well.

There's going to be drinking at this event, right?

Just picking up on the posting of Jamie, have there been any developments in the reunion? or confirmation of timing and/or location?

Personally, I am planning to travel from overseas and want to make some arrangements for the reunion if it is happening. Please do let us know.

Thanks so much for taking this forward and getting it organized.

Surely looking forward to it,

Tom Shropshire

Does anyone check this board anymore?  Curious if there are any new reunion ideas?

Ben Malisow

Only checked it 'cause I got an alert about your message, Chad.

Reunion? 25?

Damn, we're old.

25... how about a 30 year reunion in 2019?  That could be interesting! A social lunch somewhere, get in a Nicolet football or soccer game, then a watering hole to trade stories.

I like that idea, wonder if we'll get any interest...

Hi!!! I'd come to the reunion! 😁

I'm not trying to burst any reunion bubbles but there were about 6 people that showed up to the last one surprise

Um...if we don't schedule it in the winter, and I'd consider it.

I think summertime might be easier for those of us that don't live there.  😎

I spoke with one of the attendee’s years ago; I was not shocked by the super low turn-out as our class was VERY cliquey and lacked an overall class identity – evident by almost half the class never even signing up for this site and very few remaining in the area.  People grow, mature, settle-down, and I think if even a dozen people showed up for the 30th it would be interesting to trade a few stories and catch a Nicolet game.  The challenge with our class is very few people remained in the area - we apparently had a class very willing to explore the US and the world.

It's two years out, but I would be willing to help organize a reunion in 2019 – starting now gives plenty of time to reach out and begin networking to get some feedback. There would be a couple of lines of thought:

1) A summer reunion to better accommodate families with kids out of school, possibly coordinating access/a tour of Nicolet to see the changes, have a group dinner/social, as well as doing something “local” (Summerfest, State Fair, ?).

2) A fall reunion, maybe around Columbus weekend in October, getting in a Nicolet sporting event, a tour of the school, maybe visit someone’s favorite “High School Watering Hole”, and/or have a social gathering.

I would need some assistance in reaching out to and tracking down classmates as I currently do not have any personal social media accounts (for professional reasons), although I may start since I am now semi-retired 😊.  Any other takers on maybe getting this train rolling sooner rather than later?

A 30th reunion would be fun I too like the summer idea, downtown Milwaukee has changed tremendously lots of great restaurants and bars

There is already a Nicolet alum Facebook page, and most people know at least a few other people from school still...so making contact shouldn't be the tough part. The tough part will be settling on a date, and getting folks to show up.

Since Chris asked, I'd prefer summer, but am open to fall; anything but winter. A dinner/social sounds cool; I could give a rat's ass about watching a high school sports event.

Ok - I will start looking into Milwaukee events and associated dates in June/July 2019, will create a spreadsheet or database for contacts attempted and made (contact attempted yes/no; made yes/no; showing up yes/no/maybe; etc.).  I will avoid the 4th of July weekend as I know that is a time many folks would prefer to spend with family or friends.  Tentative idea - school visit/tour on a Friday; dinner/social/pub crawl Friday night, local activity Saturday (Brewers game, Summer Fest, whatever Fest is at the grounds, ?).... maybe another get together Saturday night at a happening place.  As we get within 6 months of the event and have an idea if there will be any real turn-out, I will work on bulk hotel room discounts (downtown sounds like a preferred option).  Time is on our side as the last reunion was planned fairly short notice, so working 2 years out should get a much better turnout.

I spent a little time back in the area in the early 2000's and there was a lot of change, so I can only imagine what has evolved in the last 12 plus years.

I may have to join the rest of the civilized world and get a FaceBook account.....

Hey guys. We do have a Class of '89 Facebook group, might be easier to discuss this stuff on there. I lead the push for the last two reunions, and the twentieth we actually had a decent turnout. The twenty fifth we had seven people as mentioned. Chris, if you want to spearhead this one I'm cool with just helping out.

HI,

I would love to come to the 30th!

Chris, can I make a suggestion? For one of the activities, it might be fun to do a team-based competition...like a game show, with prizes. Basing most of it around things like '80s trivia and knowledge of Nicolet would make it especially cool. And we could even capitalize on what might otherwise be seen as a negative aspect of high school: the cliques. People can forms their teams with whoever they want, including the same folks they used to hang with.

I think it would be cool because we can do it anywhere (bar/restaurant/etc.), we can inject a great deal of nostalgia, and with prizes folks get enthusiastic. We can even have team entry fees, with a portion of the fees offsetting the cost of the reunion, the prizes, and maybe a donation from our class to Nicolet.

Also: yeah, get yourself on Facebook. There are grandmothers in Lithuania who have FB accounts, fer fucksake.

Ben, those grandmothers in Lithuania are just living vicariously through others… those crazy old Lithuanians!  I like the idea of Trivia – school facts, local “North Shore History,” and miscellaneous:  like which car won the racing in the Nicolet parking lot during the “camp in” senior year? The turbo / intercooled Volvo wagon, the Vette, or the Trans Am…. (Really, I don’t remember).  For prizes or gifts, whether for trivia or some other event (random drawing), maybe we could get attendees to bring something from the area they currently live in or spend a lot of time in (local distilled beverages, sports jersey, petrified wood, etc. ).

Martin, I would probably lean on you heavily since you are in the Nicolet area (I am 1,800 miles away) and you have already organized a couple of these.  I will get signed up for Facebook in the next week or two or three to check out the reunion page.

I agree that summer will probably get the best turnout since so many of us live out of state. I have selfish reasons - I'd happily leave the oppressive Georgia heat in the summer. Thank you, Chris for getting a jump start on this. I can bring something from GA/FL for a prize if we go that route.

Wait-- there was a race during the senior sleepover?

I just remember getting arrested.

Funny Ben.... I made it off the school grounds just fine, but met up with the Men-in-Blue later that evening when they ran my plate and linked it to being at the school grounds. I never got a chance to thank the kind classmates who stuffed about 3 dozen empty beer cans between the cab and cap of my truck and put a full case in the bed.  I think the Volvo won (was that Jamie Marsh’s?).
