Those of you who weren't at the reunion this past weekend missed a great day of activities. Nancy & Chuck (Tommy) Thomas and Sally Workman were back after many years. Lindy Tyler and Bruce Miller were back again after several years. Anyone ho took Econ 101 with Mr. Wayne Tyler could have visited with him. Meal was delicious. Good job Kathy, Louise, Gayla & Kim! See you in 218.   Barbara Ann Nichols Kuykendall

Jo Ann Hudson (Day) (1933)

Hello.  My name is Jo Anna Hudson.  I am currently working on my family genealogy and my grandmothers family all came from Goodwell.  I have found family members that graduated from Goodwell H.S. In the 1930s.  I know it was such a long time ago but I was hoping to find pictures or people who may have known the Poling family.  The names I have are Clarence, Clifford, Paul, Hazel ( my grandmother) and Joye.  I spent a lot of time in Goodwell as a child and loved it.  Hopefully, some one will be familiar with the name!  Thank you so much.  You can email me at Gorno2003@yahoo.com

Jo Ann,

I don’t have any pictures, but my dad, Burge Jones, was good friends with Paul “Bear” Poling.  Hope someone has some pictures for you.

Wow, that is really exciting!  My uncle Paul was such a nice man.  I was very fond of him.  To be honest, I didn’t think anyone would respond because it was so long ago!  Thank you so much!

There is a Goodwell history book. There is an Elsie and a Paul poling mentioned and in a couple of photographs, but there weren’t any entries under the Poling name.  Were your family related to the Polings in the Clayton/Sedan areas?   I think most of the older generations are all gone, but there is a Todd and Trent, I believe.  Just a thought.  I hope you are able to contact someone who can help you.  I don’t know whether Carolyn Blackwelder or some of my other Grice relatives would remember or know anyone... Carolyn is the librarian at Hooker now.

Shirley J. England (Carlson) (1962)

Hi!  My name is Shirley England Carlson.  I grew up in Goodwell and graduated from Goodwell High School in 1962.  I attended Panhandle A. & M. College graduating in May 1966.  My Dad was Milton England, and he was Head of the Animal Science Dept. at the college.  My Mom was Ora Lea Griggs England.  She taught Home Economics and Oklahoma History at Texhoma, OK.  Mrs. Poling babysat my younger sister frequently and we thought her to be an additional Grandmother!  She was very sweet and always grew the most beautiful flowers!!!  Somewhere in a box in my stored items, I have one of the beautiful ruby red vases she had. It was round with one flat side - I believe it was like a ball - it was softball size maybe - not sure!   I remember watching her work in her flower garden propped up on two crutches!!  Her flowers were always beautiful, and she provided the flowers for services at the Methodist Church on many Sundays!  She had installed her own underground irrigation system!  She took tin cans with both ends cut out, placed them end-to-end and buried them to make her “underground irrigation system!”  I was impressed!!!  I do remember that one of her granddaughters was attending college there, but I don’t know what year she was there.  Mrs. Poling crocheted many doilies - they varied in diameter, and many were a “pineapple” design.  She would draw a guide on brown paper to shape the doily after it was crocheted.  She washed a finished doily by hand, starch it and pin it to the drawn pattern to ensure that it dried to the exact pattern she had made!!  I remember her talking about her children, but I don’t remember meeting any of them!!!  I remember taking my son to visit with her after she was in the nursing home in Guymon.  He was born in October 1973, and he was a little over a year old.  At any rate I hope this helps in your search for information!  She was a sweetheart!!!   Are you on Facebook??  I am on as Shirley England Carlson.

What a wonderful story!  I remember her flowers.  I have a picture of her in her flower garden.  So nice of you to let me know!  I will put your story in my genealogy book if that is okay?  I remember going to her house and we would go to church with her.  There was always a wonderful Easter service each year and then she would have roast prepared at her house.  I was sad when she passed.  She was a wonderful great grandmother.  :-)

Faye, you know, I am not sure where my Poling family is.....the only ones I knew about were the families in Amarillo.  My uncle Paul ( he was really my dad’s uncle but that is what we always called him) lived in Amarillo and passed a few years ago.  Uncle Red (Clifford) died when I was young so I never really knew him very well.  My grandmother was Hazel Poling, I am not sure when she graduated but I do know that she was going to college when she met my grandfather.
