In Memory

Juan Ledesma

Juan was a great friend to many, and my dearest friend all through high school. We went to the prom together and we were voted "Bobsie Twins" in the yearbook. Juan was the reason I was in Play Production. He was the coolest, best-dressed person I knew and he taught me the meaning of the word "urbane," which is how he described himself.

Juan did not get to college, but was a success in business because of his strong and persuasive writing skills and his fluency in both Spanish and English. He worked for AIDS Project L.A. for a few years and then other non-profit AIDS organizations such as "Being Alive" which reached out to the Latin Community.

Juan loved my family and we loved him. My kids called him Uncle Juan when they were little and he spoiled them. In the last few years of his life, Juan became reclusive and cut off from most of his friends. His longtime partner, Mike, had died from an acute heart infection in 2000, and Juan never was able to recover fully from that sudden grief. I miss him dearly.

Wow..... let me just take a deep breath and a moment to pause......  When I clicked on this link not knowing what I'd find I was shocked to find Juan Ledesma.  Juan was one of my friends in high school and we met in Play Production.  When I think of Juan the first thing that comes to mind was his amazing smile.  Juan had a smile that would light up the room.  Unfortuanately the last time I saw Juan was on graduation day from JFK.  I find it almost erie but profoundly true when they said that your graduation day may be the last day that you will ever see some of your fellow classmates as life takes on different directions and geographical locations.  While it's been almost 28 years since I had last seen Juan Ledesma I never forgot him and he has and always will be remembered as one of my favorite high school buddies that I shared the stage with back in Play Production.  I love ya Juan may you RIP..... because you'll always be loved!

Peace & Comfort,

Promise Marks
