Gary was a really good friend of mine and we kept in contact until his death in 2008 (?). He is survived by wife Brenda and 3 daughters.

We were in boy scouts together and played in a rock band. Unlike me, I considered him to be an excellent musician.

He was previously married to fellow classmate, Annette Bielefeld, (no children).

He served in the United States Army from around (?) 1974-76.

In the years before his death, he focused on his music.

Cheers matie, Gregg Smith

One of my oldest friends, I lost track of Gary years ago. I still have a cassette tape he made for me of him singing and playing guitar. I miss you, my friend!

Gary was a nice guy and a fine musician. I remember going to his parent's music store and jamming with him. Loved his folks and thought the world of Gary. Sad to hear the news of his passing.

Gary was a longtime friend since my earliest memories.  He was a very original and creative musician.  Because of Gary, I started playing guitar.  We both decided to take lessons, he on guitar with Ed Powers (who we considered a god on guitar at the time) and me with Mike Seibeneicher (sp?) on bass (I figured, wrongly, that because it had only 4 strings, I would be able to start playing quicker!).  I switched to guitar very quickly, and tried to keep up with Gary.  In 6th grade, our teacher would let us perform for the class when things got slow at the end of the day.  We even wrote a song (much to the embarrassment of fellow OHHS alums Tracy Post-Jones and Helen Strom, whose names were prominently mentioned in the song), and performed it during class.

We later formed a band with BIll Moore on bass (a real bass player) and Steve Goolian on drums.  Steve later became a guitar player, as well.  Some of you might remember that we used to play for the after-school dances on the weekend at OHHS.

We used to jam all the time in his father's Yamaha piano store on Ethel Street down in the basement of the store.  Gary was ahead of the curve on bands, and would bring in records (vinyl, you know) of new bands like Led Zeppelin before they had become popular.  Later, after our high school days, I would run into him and he was always writing songs.  His style would have been well-received today, I think.

I miss you, my friend.  May you rest in peace,

Chuck Foley

Gary and I hitchhiked back from San Francisco together. Where a girl had picked us up and dropped us at yellow stone park Wyoming, we walked for miles trying to catch a ride then we heard a train off in the distance, looking at each other we ran for it, jumping the train we rode it for two days and a night to Chicago when we decided we better get off. Sorry to hear you passed Ken

I played with Gary a lot. We played together at the Intersection bar near the eastown area. We played at the Drinking Gourd bar in San Francisco. Gary was good and an individual. Nobody sounded exactly like him. The last time I saw him he was at some Kent Oaks facility. They made him take a lot of meds. I've known other people who were in mental health places, took lots of meds, and died. A real shame.
