Douglas J. Bustraan, age 59, of Grand Rapids, passed away December 10, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Doug was a strong, gentle and kind man, who will be dearly missed by all of the lives he so gracefully touched. He was a loving husband and father, who did anything for his family, each and every day of his life. With that undying love and generosity, he continues to give to them, even now that he has been called back Home. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Bustraan. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Marsha; their devoted daughters, Emily (Gordy) Baylis and Anna (Justin) Montgomery; and his beloved grand-dogs, Buddy, Charlie and Woodson; his mother, Doris Bustraan; brothers, Dick (Judy), Jim (Mary) and Dave Bustraan; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Steve (Jill) Nesbitt, Michele (Jim) Cooper, Linda (Bill) Soldaat; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visit with his family on Friday, December 14 from 5-8 PM at Heritage Life Story Funeral Home - Van Strien Creston Chapel, 1833 Plainfield NE. A private memorial service will be held. Per Doug's wishes, cremation will take place. For those who wish, memorial contributions to West Michigan Humane Society or any other charity of one's choosing, are appreciated. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Dr. Brinker, Susan and Whitney, as well as all of the other caring staff at Lemmen-Holten, for their caring support and guidance through this difficult journey.
