BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -- Joshua Paul Barnes, 30, of Sherwood Circle died unexpectedly Sunday evening, June 18, 2006, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Barnes was born in Greenfield, MA, on Aug. 26, 1975, the son of Bruce and Carol (Campbell) Barnes. He was raised and educated in Greenfield and was a graduate of Greenfield High School, Class of 1993.
Mr. Barnes served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1994 until his honorable discharge from active service in 1998.
He was employed as a corrections officer for the State of Vermont Corrections Dept., working at the Springfield, VT, Corrections facility.
Previously, he had been employed for the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Greenfield.
Mr. Barnes was a former resident of Turners Falls, MA, moving to Brattleboro in 2005. While residing in Turners Falls, he had attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
Of his pastimes and interests, he enjoyed golf, spectator sports, and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
On Oct. 12, 2002 at Trinitarian Congregational Church in Northfield, he married the former Jessica DeRusha.
Besides his loving wife, he leaves, one son, Jack Barnes,(age 2) at home; his father of Turners Falls and his mother of Keene, NH; one sister; Melanie Lewis and her husband Matthew of Erving, MA; maternal grandparents, Robert and Bertha Campbell of Montague, MA; paternal grandparents, Rudy and Bernice Vlach of Turners Falls; one niece, five nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. at Saint Michael's Episcopal Church, Putney Road, with the Rev Jean Jersey of St. Michael Episcopal Church and the Rev. Marnie Keator, director of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Morningside Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home, 40 Terrace St., on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
