The Grimsley-Page Football Game is on Friday, October 9. The 4th Annual Grimsley-Page Golf Tournament is that morning.

Please vote in the poll on the home page to express your opinion on whether we should have our reunion that same weekend or some other weekend.

The 20th Reunion (in 2004) consisted of an informal Friday night gathering at Pastabilities (owned by Cindy Essa), a Saturday noon family picnic in the grove at GHS and a semi-formal Saturday night dinner/dance with charity auction at the Koury Convention Center (Sheraton Four Seasons).
What did you like and not like about that schedule?
What about the Koury location? Do again?
Do you think our Saturday night event should be similar to last time's or more casual?

Hey Dawn and everyone. Thank you for doing this! I think more casual might be a nice change, then again I pretty much wear jeans to these things anyway...has become a tradition. The auction/fund raising stuff is extremely labor-intensive and our class has certainly done a lot in the past. The thing at Pastabilities was big fun last time and everyone could purchase based on their own budgets. Economic times are tight for many so I lean toward less expensive alternatives overall to be as inclusive as possible. On the date, I would say late summer to fall, but well before the holidays.
Question for you - do you have most of our email addresses or are you needing us to update that info? I've entered several in the past 2 days but don't want to do double duty.

Thanks, Dana. Yes, we need EVERYONE to help with e-mail addresses. I already sent to the relatively few e-mails that were in the Alumni Association database, and the majority of those bounced back as no good.
Please everyone, use the link at the bottom right of the home page to send to everyone you're in contact with that hasn't checked in here yet. The more people that check in here, the better our reunion will be.
This site is great in that we were able to upload the address list from the Alumni Association. Then hopefully most people will update their information here. After the reunion, it's easy to then download all the updates to be incorporated back into the Alumni Association database. This site is great for that!

I am voting to have our reunion more toward the summer time and hangout at some spots downtown. Churchill's would be great for a Friday night gathering. We could take full advantage of the band, great drinks, and downtown outdoor ambiance. Saturday we could have dinner at a nice restaurant. These are only my suggestions but I am flexible.

I think we should try and have the reunion at the Elks Club or the Shiners Club or any one of the local orginiazations that have a decent size dining hall.
Thoughts?

I vote all casual..I'm with Indira on the downtown thing..then people could scatter after our gathering with their friends to any number of places within walking distance.
I'd also rather stay downtown for Saturday too, maybe Sheraton..is it still the Sheraton? If we do a convention center...or even just a restaurant.

There were around 185 or so people at the 20th, so probably a regular restaurant won't do on a Saturday night. However, there are a bunch of good options with larger rooms that are right downtown including Kress Terrace, The Empire Room, The Regency Room and various banquet rooms at the Marriott Downtown (the former Sheraton). Lots of options!

Meeting hall/conference room sounds good! I don't see any reason to do anything special re: full meals and formality. Snacky things and a cash bar (for those who imbibe) would be fantastic. I like the idea of a local hotel, in case people want to stay the night (though my Mom offered to put anyone up who wants, me included, and her house is huge).
Does not really matter when the event is, but if its later in the summer or fall, I could combine it with my semi-annual come to Greensboro for ten days, climb up on the roof and clean Mom's gutters and risk injury. Also, would be available to help set up, put out name cards, whatever.
Not much into raffles, but if anyone wants to set up something like a silent auction or something so that we can donate towards classmates who are ill or who have spouses or kids serving overseas, that would be terrific. Also anything to defray the cost (even admission if need be).
Rather than a band, I recommend some big speakers and someone with eighties music on his ipod :) It would not be a reunion without Laura Branigan and the J. Geils Band :)
At the end of the day, I would just love to see my old friends again, no matter where.

I'm really hoping the reunion ISN'T on the Page-v-Grimsley weekend. I'd love to catch up with everyone again, and this would be the 3rd reunion in a row where I'd have a prior family commitment on the same weekend.
My wife's niece is getting married up in Ohio on Oct 10th, and she's asked my daughter to be a flower girl. No way I'm missing that.

I'm all for a summerish date--would love to be downtown and outside for some/all of the action. No formal dinner necessary...the casual hang out part of the night was the most fun last time.

Live in Concord so almost any weekend could work for me.
Casual is fine by me. It would be nice to have it in one large room such as a hotel convention room to ensure that everyone gets to visit with each other. I love Jonathon's idea that if there is a silent auction that the proceeds go to sick classmates or classmates that are serving over seas. I am so excited to catch up with everyone!

Downtown GSO sounds good, as well as going casual. I also like Jonathan's thoughts about the band. 80s DJ would be a good fit since most folks will be there to catch up with each other and likely won't pay much attention to a band.
Just about any date EXCEPT September 26th would be great. I'd really like to make it to this one but the 26th is out for me. Of course I realize we won't get the perfect date for everyone.

I can't wait to see all of you..we're so freaking old! Any date after August 21st works for me.
I also want to put in a word for casual, cheap and just plain relaxed. Terry's 30th reunion a couple of years ago in someone's back yard by the pool. Of course it was a very small class, but it's beautiful in Greensboro in the fall. If only the Jefferson club were still in existence.
No matter what we do or where, thanks to the organizers for taking the time to put all this together.

Folks I think having a restaurant to go to on Friday night is great because everyone can come, drink if they want, eat if they want and /or just hang out. Cindy's is awesome because we would be supporting a classmates business. Those that want to go to the game can and those that don't have the alternative to stay at the restaurant and or come back after the game. It's important to me that people in all income brackets have the means to come to part or all of the events. I had several people that could not come before because of costs so some very generous Alumni donated extra funds and these people were able to attend. I was the only person that knew who the people in need were. I agree with Dawn that we need a venue that can accomidate 185+ people for the Saturday night event. One of the locations she reccomends are adequate. We need to contact several hotels in the area to see if they will give a break on rooms. They generally will and may be able to accomidate the Saturday event. We also need a photographer. Dress should be optional, what matters is that people come not what they wear. If we are going to raise money with some type of raffle maybe the beneficiary could be a Grimsley Recipient such as a Scholarship or something for the teachers. I have more ideas if you want them. Just let me know how I can help.

Please make sure the location does not have a height requirement. I'd hate for Paul Gray to have to stay in the parking lot.

Guys, I really want to go! I don't think I can commit before the last minute, because I am all involved with the Atlanta Pride thing this year, and am planning on seeing Mom week after next for a long-needed house-keeping and stuff. But I would like very much to keep in touch, no matter what!

Looking forward to seeing everyone, especially Will. I didn't know you were back from your "vacation". It's nice to see you didn't lose your sense of humor. Many things have changed in the last 8-10 years. We can catch up. See you there!
