I remember Emily so well. She was kind and sweet. She will be greatly missed.

Emily Arndt died Dec. 1, 2007 at the age of 36.  She died in Washington, D.C. where she was a professor of theology at Georgetown University.  She died of an aggressive form of breast cancer that caught everyone off guard.  She had completed her undergraduate degree from UNC-Asheville, had her master's degree from Fordham University and her Ph.D. from Notre Dame.

Emily left behind husband, Michael Smith; daughter, Virginia (born July 2002); and son, Langston (born June 2007) and, of course, her parents, family, friends, students and peers who all miss her terribly.

She remained my best and closest friend after high school through weddings, births, moves, and life changes.  She was an amazing and generous woman, a devoted mother and always a good friend.  And she left us much too soon.

I was so shocked to have seen this on here! Emily was a great person and I always knew she would accomplish great things with her life! I am saddened that she left us so soon....
