"Martha Catherine Maxwell, 44, died on Thursday, April 14, 2005, of ovarian cancer.
She graduated from Page High School in 1978, Duke University in 1982 with a B.A. in religion, Presbyterian School of Christian Education, Richmond, Va., in 1984, with a master's degree and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in December, 1998 with a Master's of Science in accounting. She was certified as a CPA in 1999. At the time of her death, she was employed by Breslow Starling Frost Warner Boger Hiatt, PLLC in Greensboro.
She was presented by The Debutante Club of Greensboro, was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was a former member of the Junior League of Greensboro.
Catherine was a woman of great faith, which sustained her and her family throughout her illness. Her strong will and dry sense of humor were a great comfort to those around her. Her life was devoted to her sons, Eric and Tyler. She was a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and colleague. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by sons, Eric 16 and Tyler Smith, 13, of the home; father Dick Maxwell and stepmother Marty Maxwell; mother Martha Joe Padgette-Gelzer and stepfather Philip Gelzer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Frank Starr of Greensboro, Sandy and Roy Smith of Malvern, Ark., Page and Chip Weethee of Greensboro; three nieces and six nephews; aunt Margaret Padgette McGeorge of Virginia Beach, Va., uncle Don Maxwell of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three stepsisters; and former husband, Bobby Smith of High Point."
