Victor Alexander Sapp, III, 46, died early Wednesday morning, December 12, 2007, at his home in Chapel Hill.

Vic attended St. Pius and graduated with the class of 1980 from Page High School. He also attended undergraduate school at UNC-G and ultimately received a Masters in Business Administration in 2002.

Vic was always known as a hard worker. He worked for Boar and Castle as a teenager, and worked for Best Products where he became manager at a young age. He then worked for Davidson’s on High Point Road, and when Davidson’s moved to Arizona in the late 1980’s, Vic began his own business. He became very successful in a number of areas. Most recently he obtained his securities trading license and worked as a broker in Chapel Hill.

Vic’s greatest passion was basketball. His basketball journey became in 1988 at the Guilford College YMCA. This basketball program was called the “The Allstars”. In the early 1990’s, Vic and Coach Johnson joined forces to create the Greensboro Gaters which has grown to what is now the North Carolina Gaters Program. It is one of the largest amateur basketball programs in the United States. The Gaters under Vic’s membership have won many national and state titles. Many current and former NBA and major college players got their start with the Gaters. Vic’s impact on the sport of basketball is worldwide.
