Oh this breaks my heart. Marian and I were very close friends, from grammar school all the way through our years at Grimsley. After that we kept up kind of sporadically, but always exchanged Christmas cards and an occasional phone call. She visited me twice in New Orleans, once in the '70s before I was married, and then in the '80s when she came here for a convention. I have so many fond memories of our friendship and all the things we shared in common (like being flute players). I was unaware of her health issues, and wish I had been more proactive in keeping up in recent years. She was a very special person. Nancy Pinson Goldstein
