Jean Wells (Barham)

Jean Marie Barham Kendrick

Mrs. Jean Marie Barham Kendrick passed away quietly at home in Daytona Beach, FL on Saturday, January 24, 2009. Born in Petersburg, VA, she resided in Greensboro, NC, and married and raised her two sons in Greensboro as well. Jean remarried and she and her loving husband, Maury, relocated to Florida in 1983, living briefly in Fort Myers and Lake Placid before settling in Daytona Beach, FL. Greatly loved by all who knew her, she amassed quite a large "extended family" over the years as a result of the many friends and neighbors who came to know her and will miss her deeply. While raising her sons, Jean worked for Standard Theatre Supply Company and later for Brin-Mont Chemical Company as their accountant. Once her sons were grown, Jean and Maury enjoyed several years traveling in their travel trailer, visiting friends and family across the country, camping and fishing along the way. In recent years, Jean and Maury played host to numerous visitors who loved nothing more than spending time with them and being surrounded by their love. Mourning her loss is her beloved husband, Maury of Daytona Beach; sister, Joyce McFetters of Wilmington, NC; sons, Steven B. Barham, and his wife, Patricia of Charlotte, NC, and Jimmie D. "Tyke" Barham, Jr. and his wife, Colleen of Denver, CO; step-sons, Ken Kendrick and his wife, Meg of Vorhees, NJ, and Gary Kendrick and his wife, Connie of Oakland, OR; granddaughters, Samantha Taylor and her husband, Brian of Elkhorn City, KY, Megan Barham of Raleigh, NC, Jennifer Kendrick of New Jersey, and Amber Miller of Charlotte, NC; grandsons, Eric Barham of Charlotte, NC, and Michael and Matthew Kendrick of New Jersey; great-granddaughter, Addison Jean Taylor of Elkhorn City, KY; numerous special nieces and nephews in the Greensboro, NC area and New York City; and two great-nieces and a great-nephew in Bogota, Columbia. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of South Daytona, 2197 Kenilworth Ave, South Daytona, FL. Jean has donated her remains to the University of Florida School of Medicine in Gainesville, FL. In lieu of flowers, Jean has requested that donations may be made in her name to the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Duke University Health System in Durham, NC
