Laury died on Oct. 10, 1992 from a severe asthma attack. She was a junior at High Point University at the time and was thoroughly enjoying college life. She was a Kappa Delta and pretty much only wore green and white, thanking God on a regular basis that those colors worked on her. Laury was fulfilling her dream of following in her grandmother's footsteps to become an elementary education teacher and was beyond excited about her upcoming student teaching assignment. She was such a happy, confident, hilarious, and beautiful person. She would be all over this reunion by the way. God only knows what she would have spent on her reunion outfit and shoes!
I was in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago and met Laury's little sister Heather for dinner. She is doing really well: working in PR for an environmental policy firm, married to a great guy from Norway, and has an adorable little girl named Lucia Lauryn. Her brother lives in northern California and is completing an advanced degree in engineering. Laury's parents are also doing well and still live in their Hockessin home on the hill. Laury and I were pretty good friends and I miss her dearly.She always had a bright smile and something funny to say .Love you and miss you! I always called her L L. That was our own little joke between us.
