John Watts Avent departed this world peacefully on March 31,2014 at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson, MS surrounded by family and friends. He was born September 24, 1949 in Cleveland, MS. John graduated from Greenville High School in 1967. He attended MS Delta Community College, Holmes Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi. John was a strong, selfless man who enjoyed life to the fullest and found great joy in making everyone around him happy. Music was his love. He played in numerous bands, beginning at the age of 14. His last project was playing bass guitar and being manager for The Fabulous Earth Angels. He was retired from MDOT where he worked many years in the Project Office in Hollandale and in both the Research and Contract Administration Divisions in Jackson, MS. John was predeceased in death by his parents; John W. Avent and Maxine Watts Avent and his brother; Jody Thomas Avent. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 12 years, Suzanne Brown Avent; his sons Wes Avent and Lee Avent of Brandon, MS; stepsons Justin Ballard(Betsy) of Birmingham, AL and Wesley Ballard of Ridgeland, MS; sister Linda Capobianco(Jim) of Schenectady, NY; aunt Jean Dunn of Brookhaven, MS and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. John loved animals, especially his cats; Oreo, Max and Gibbs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: Jackson Friends c/o Dell Zubkowski,203 Woodlands Green Dr.,Brandon,MS 39047: CARA, 960 Flag Chapel Rd, Jackson, MS 39209: St. Peter's By the Lake, 1954 Spillway Rd, Brandon, MS 39047 or an organization of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Bart Delashmet and Staff at Premier Medical, the many doctors and nurses at Baptist Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson, MS, and UAB in Birmingham, AL. Special thanks to: Carrie, Christy, Suzanne and James with MS Home Care in Jackson, MS. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Wednesday, April 2, at St. Peter's by the Lake with visitation at 2:00 followed by the service at 3:00.
