Barbara died of breast cancer. She had it for about a year when I was diagnosed. She was a great comfort to me and we talked weekly as I went through the process of recovery. She was very brave, having been told she was stage 4 or 5 and refused treatment. She wanted to spend her last years in full control and feeling good as she prepared her husband and children for being without her. I have been a survivor for nearly 27 years, but will never forget her dedication to her family and the stamina she displayed as she succumbed to this dreadful diseae.
