Rob loved his classmates. He tried so hard to come to the last reunion and was called overseas just as he was coming to Greenville. He called and had me give his regrets for missing out on seeing everyone. There will surely be an empty spot in our hearts for him this June.

Robert got in touch with me a few years ago and what a nice surprise to hear about all he'd been doing over the past 30+ years. He thanked me for helping him get his high school diploma. When I asked him to explain such nonsense, he said if it wasn't for him sitting between me and Melva Payne he wouldn't have passed all the tests!

When Mike's 40th Reunion came up, Robert called several times trying to persuade us to attend since he was going to be there. We were able to make it at the last minute and I'm so glad we did. He talked not about his accomplishments but how happy he was to be finally settling down after so many years of traveling.

So, it is with great sadness that I recall our meeting for the first time since graduating and not knowing that it would be the last.
