SUTTON, Dr. Gene (nee Dawdy) Ed.D. Lived each day to the fullest, with hard work and dedication. It is with great sadness that we announce that Jock Doc went to Heaven on Sunday, August 2, 2009, at the age of 64. While she sat on the Executive Board of the Canadian Olympic Committee, was President of Sport Hamilton and Vice Chair of Gymnastics Canada, she was most importantly the cherished and adored mother of Stephanie, a friend and confidante of Kellie Hinnells and the dearest sister of Ruth (Rosewell) and the late Blake Dawdy. Gene will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, family members, friends and colleagues around the world. She is predeceased by her parents Vern and Sadie Dawdy but survived by loving cousins of the Pearson and Dawdy clans as well as longtime friend Anne Rice. Gene was a visionary who used her experience and knowledge to make a difference from playground to podium in her dealings both in sport and in everyday life. Gene always had time for the important people… and she saw everybody as important. She earned a Master's in Physical Education, a Doctorate in Sport Psychology and taught for 30 years at Winona High School, Scott Park Secondary School, Delta Secondary School, Mohawk College, McMaster University and Seneca College. A celebration of Dr. Gene Sutton's life to remember her spontaneity, her generous spirit, and love of things like travel, laying in the sun with a book, Christmas and the people she held dear will be announced shortly. Gene was a mentor to many, knowing she could make a difference and feeling that everyone had the power to do the same.
