Mr. Kenneth Stanley

STANLEY, Kenneth Suddenly at home, on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at age 80. Ken, beloved husband of Betty (nee Headon). Loving father of Elizabeth Mary Stanley (Keith West). Predeceased by his son David William Stanley (Nancy Scott Stanley), predeceased by his daughter Catharine Anne Stanley (Andrew Held). Beloved grandfather of Sarah, Rob, Caitlin, Rachel, Heather, James, Jen, Meagan, Sarah, Andrew and loving great-grandfather of Joshua. Brother of Blanche, Bill, Ev, David C., Ruby and Dave. Survived by his sister Phoebe. Ken grew up in Toronto and was a graduate of McMaster University and University of Toronto. He worked for the Hamilton Board of Education for 18 years and was Principal of Scott Park Secondary School. He retired from the York Regional District School Board in 1988 as Superintendent of Curriculum. Ken was an all around athlete and played as a defensive end for the Hamilton Tiger Cats. He was elected to McMaster University's Football Team of the Century. He was a geographer, birder, walker, and spent many happy hours at his cottage on Georgian Bay. Friends and family may visit at the Newmarket Alliance Church, 1140 Gorham Street, Newmarket from 10 a.m. Tuesday followed by a Celebration of Ken's Life at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Thompson Funeral Home, Aurora (905-727-5421).
