A man was shot to death Sunday night in Harvey, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office reported.
Deputies responding to a report of a shooting around 10:30 p.m. found the man lying near the front door of 1124 Tallow TreeLane, said Col. John Fortunato, sheriff's office spokesman.
Jimmy Houston, 23, of Harvey, was pronounced dead on the scene, Fortunato said. Houston suffered several gunshot wounds and a number of spent casings were located near the area where Houston's body was found, he said.
Houston's slaying was the latest of several on the West Bank of Jefferson Parish in recent weeks. In total, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office has investigated 24 homicides in the unincorporated parish this year, including 20 on the West Bank. This month alone there were 10 murders in West Jefferson, all in the parish's unincorporated areas.
