Kenny died around 1969-1970.  Kenny's mom (Janet Newton) and I worked for Dr. Michael Crile (Danny Crile's dad-a cardiologist in Hemet) and had become good "co-worker friends."  Danny had come home from college (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, I think) for spring or summer break.  Janet and her husband Ken (our school counselor at Hemet High) had just left for a road trip vacation.  Danny's accident occurred while his parents were gone.  Dr. Crile and I knew Kenny had died before Janet and Ken found out because no one could reach them (no one carried cell phones back then).  It seemed like an eternity between the time Kenny died and when his parents found out.  I felt so helpless thinking of Janet and Ken driving around, not even knowing their son had died.  Somehow in the midst of their acute grief, they managed to drive home.  Danny was their only child.  Besides grieving the loss of Danny, they had to grieve the loss of any future family they might have had.  I intentionally remained close to Janet and Ken, becoming something akin to an "adopted daughter."  I'll always remember the day Janet gave me a beautiful blue vase that had belonged to her mother.  Janet told me, "There's really no one else I'd rather give this to than you."  I felt honored, knowing the vase would have been passed on to Kenny.

Ken and I were good friends starting at Hemet Elementary. Kenny, Mike Morrison and I shared an apartment while attending Cal Poly Pomona.  Ken was on track to graduate in three years as an Electronics Engineer.  We had many good times together and I miss him still.  Truly one of the good guys and it was an honor to know him.
