Arlan Piepho - Class Of 1966

OBITUARY FROM JACKSON (TENNESEE) SUN, JULY 29, 2011:

Arlan Piepho, age 63, a resident of Knoxville, TN, passed away at home on Thursday July 28, 2011.

He was born on July 14, 1948 to Mabel and Glen Piepho in Fairbury, NE. When he was a young child, Arlan and his family moved to Hobart, IN where he attended high school. He continued his education at the University of Missouri at Rolla, and graduated in 1970 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Arlan had a very successful career in the steel industry. While in college, he began working as a General Laborer at US Steel during the summers. Upon graduation from college, he started working at US Steel, Texas Works in Baytown, TX, as a management trainee. He held several positions, including Maintenance Supervisor, General Foremen of Steel Producing, and Assistant Superintendent of Steel Producing. In 1986, Arlan joined Gerdau Ameristeel (then Florida Steel) in Jackson, TN, as the Superintendent of the Melt Shop. He transferred with Gerdau in March, 2003 to become the Vice President and Plant-Manager of the Knoxville Mill. At all times during Arlan's career, he continued to be a "hands-on" manager, confidant and mentor.

Arlan was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and colleague. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Arlan was preceded in death by his father, Glen Piepho; mother, Leona Mabel Piepho-Osb;, step-father, James Osby and grandson, Tristen Lee Piepho. He is survived by his loving wife, Laurie Piepho; children, Clint Piepho and wife Melisa of Tuscaloosa, AL, Kandice King and husband Brad of Nashville, TN, and Kristie Rizzello and husband Gianni of Zurich, Switzerland; grandchildren, Luke Rizzello, Ethan King, Mary and Emma Piepho; brothers, Loris Lee Piepho and wife Marjie of Howell, MI, and Linus Piepho and wife Nancy of Ft. Worth, TX; sisters, Venetha Morris and husband Ed of Woodbridge, IL, and LaDonna Dudzik and husband Dale of Portage, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.

A Memorial service honoring Arlan's life will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Human Immunology and Cancer gift Fund to assist with the research of amyloidosis: UT Medical Center, Human Immunology and Cancer gift Fund, 1924 Alcoa Hwy., Knoxville, TN 37920; 865-305 -9165. The family will receive friends from 4 - 7 p.m. Saturday, at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
