MATTOON — Carole June Pangburn, age 73, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 4:22 a.m., Monday, October 1, 2012, at the Odd-Fellow Rebekah Home.

The funeral service in her honor will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Mattoon, IL. Reverend Larry Mason will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Hugo Cemetery, Hugo, IL. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born December 28, 1938, in Duquoin, IL, Carole was the daughter of Minyard Leroy and Matilda June (Mandrell) Gilliam. She married Charles W. Pangburn on July 27, 1987. He survives. Other survivors include her children, Janice Lee (Cottingim) Kempe of Danville, IL and Teresa Lynn (Fleenor) Naylor of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Greg Gilliam and wife Peggy of Valparaiso, IN; two sisters, Shirley Gilbert and husband Mitch of Normal, IL, and Rita Grube of Mattoon, IL; and two grandchildren, Shad Lorenz serving with the military in Ft. Meade, MD, and Jennifer Gritti of Austin, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Mrs. Pangburn was formerly a secretary for Howell Asphalt in Mattoon, IL and later cared for the elderly. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mattoon, IL, where she participated in the Can Do Circle and the choir. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, and garage sales. She was also an avid movie fan.
