Gene died from a head injury as a result of a bicycle accident. He was riding with his son and hit a rock going down one of the hills in Berkeley, California. He was thrown over the handlebars and sustained a terminal injury. He donated his corneas.
He had received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. He was married (Mila) with one son (mike). At the time, he was teaching philosophy at a local college.
Gene had received his B.S. degree in physics from Purdue Lafayette, and his Masters degree in physics from Ohio State.
